It is a complete organ in every respect, capable of recreat- ing in authentic tonal color the intent of composers from all periods of music literature. ... This instrument represents a supreme achievement in research. It is the result of many years of testing. Many of the world’s finest church and concert organists, act- ing as consultants, have made valuable recommenda- tions in its development. The Hammond Grand 100 Organ is equally at home with music from pre-Bach to the contemporary. It will fulfill the exacting demands of organists from the larg- est cathedral to the most intimate chapel or in any institution in any musical situation. The Hammond Grand 100 Organ cannot get out of tune. While this instrument sounds different from the Hammond Organs you have known in the past, the tone is produced by means of the familiar tone wheel generator. Expansion of the properties of the tone wheel generator has permitted tapering the scale to favor the higher notes in ensemble playing, assuring an even scale over the entire compass of the keyboard. The Hammond Grand 100 Organ has been specifically designed to cover the characteristic organ tones—Dia- pason, sometimes called the Principal; Flute; Reed; and Strings. Each of these four families of tones are available to the organist at various amplitudes from soft to loud. This instrument is truly a large organ in every sense with sixty-five stop tabs. Fifty of these are speaking stops, divided into four tonal divisions as follows: nine- teen for the swell organ; nine for the antiphonal organ, playable on the Swell manual; fourteen for the great organ; and eight for the pedal organ. The Hammond Grand 100, with its fifty speaking stops, offers the organist many beautiful solo voices without penalizing the chorus ensembles. Each of the solo stops possesses its own distinctive tone. In addi- tion to these fine tones, combinations of other voices not specifically designed to carry a melody will produce charming solo qualities, as they do on pipe organs. The Hammond Grand 100 Organ provides a mixture on each manual using pitches up to the 26th. The com- ponents of each mixture are separately derived—there is no borrowing from the mutation stops. This permits the organist to add brilliance at will to the full organ tone. Seventeen manual and general thumb combination pistons are located beneath the manual keys. The com- binations are made by a hold-and-set, visual combina- tion action. As the organist sits at the console, he can set up whatever he desires on any piston, even change them during a recital. The stop tabs flick on and off so the organist knows by sight exactly what tone combi- nation he is playing. A sforzando piston to instantly bring in the full organ is also provided. The 32-note, concave and radiating pedal-board of the Hammond Grand 100 is exactly like the conventional pedal-board in use on all pipe organs. The eight differ- ent pedal voices combine to furnish a solid foundation to the manual tones. Included in the pedal voices is a 32 ft. stop. Volume of the pedal organ is controlled by the Great expression pedal, and the tone is fed into both the Pedal and Great tone cabinets. As an added convenience to the organist, the Ham- mond Grand 100 Organ has eight toe pistons. Six of these pistons duplicate the six general thumb pistons, one is a sforzando piston which duplicates the thumb piston, and one Great-to-Pedal reversible piston which activates the Great-to-Pedal stop tab. As one of the foremost interpreters of Cesar-Franck and Bach, Dr. Salvador’s concerts have thrilled audiences in almost every part of the world with his personal empathy for, and abil- ity to faithfully reproduce, the most challenging organ compositions extant. Dr. Salvador is organist and choir director at the St. Louis Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri. This work is in addition to his concert, radio and television work. Dr. Salvador has also made extensive contributions to church music for the Roman Catholic service, and has written several books on organ playing.
