Veronica Vasicka fully demonstrates her enviable knowledge of all things Minimal Wave with this compilation that scours the world for obscure synth based brilliance. The Hidden Tapes focuses on a five year period from 1979 and features ten rare, unreleased, and licensed tracks from as far as Japan and the former Yugoslavia. Given the cultish nature of the Minimal Wave imprint, this compilation is likely to be one of their most popular releases, and for fans of the sound it's damn near essential. Proceedings commence with the crystalline industrial thump of "Care" from Danish act SS - Say, which descends brilliantly into sonic sludge at the close. There's a healthy dose of Belgian acts included - further expanding on the recent compilation Walhalla released - as well as several obscure British acts. It's a compelling compendium of synth wave excellence made all that more special by the usual care dedicated to the presentation.
