  • Item: 45 RPM 7" inch record, 1963: "The One You Can't Have"/"From Jimmy with Tears". “The Honeys[1][2] were a 1960s girl group who recorded for Capitol Records. The Honeys were a kind of female counterpart to the Beach Boys; Beach Boy Brian Wilson served as their record producer and chief songwriter. The Honeys (the name a slang term for a female surfing enthusiast)[3] consisted of sisters Diane and Marilyn Rovell, and their cousin Ginger Blake. Marilyn and Diane had met the Beach Boys when the boys performed at a Hollywood club called Pandora's Box, in late 1962. Brian and Marilyn (who was still in high school) began dating, and he brought the girls into the recording studio, to produce their songs ("Surfin' Down the Swanee River", "Shoot the Curl", "Pray for Surf"), and included them as backup performers on Beach Boys records. The cheerleader voices on "Be True to Your School" were performed by the Honeys, and the two groups sometimes shared the same concert bill.[4] In 1964 The Honeys sang background vocals for Jan and Dean on the hit singles, "The New Girl In School", "Dead Man's Curve", and "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena". The Honeys' career faded as surfing music went out of vogue. Marilyn and Brian were married, and became the parents of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, who later found fame as members of Wilson Phillips. Marilyn and Diane later re-teamed as a duo called American Spring, during the 1970s. During the 1990s, the Honeys reunited, and performed locally around Hollywood and Los Angeles. An anthology CD of their music (including several Spring recordings) was also released by Capitol Records in 1992. On March 10, 2016 two of The Honeys participated in concert at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, CA as part of a tribute to their long-time friend and 1960s songwriting legend, the late P.F.   • International Shipping: I sympathize with int’l buyers regarding shipping charges and their country’s Customs fees, but because the value must be declared in order to insure the item for that amount, I’m unable to satisfy the expectations of most buyers in certain countries.   • Condition: Records may not function as intended per surface noise, defective playback due to manufacturing defect or scratches, etc. and any extant sleeves/covers often have damage such as flawed edges and odors which may require repair or treatment, so I’m selling the item as being in “For parts or not working” condition. Most records are in scratched condition. See Goldmine Record Album Price Guide, 5th Edition, page 17: “It’s estimated that no more than 2 to 4 percent of all records remaining from the 1950’s and 1960s are truly Near Mint” (and the next grade down from Near Mint is VG+, where light scratches are present). It amazes me that the world of record collecting doesn’t have an official grading company such as in the comic book field (they have CGC), the coin collecting realm (they have PCGS), etc. Until an official 3rd party industry expert comes along, record grading remains subjective and opinions vary due to parties’ differences in audio equipment, etc.
