Description
The Ink Spots formed in 1934 and made an early appearance at the Apollo. Initially, it was Orville (Hoppy) Jones, Deek Watson, Jerry Daniels, and Charlie Fuqua. In 1938, Daniels was replaced by Bill Kenney who influenced their song choices and became instrumental to their major success. Their first studio-recorded success was ‘If I Didn’t Care’ which became one of the ten best-selling singles of all time. By 1943 and 1944, Watson and Jones were gone from the group and replaced by Billy Bowen and Herb Kenny.
This album was released, by Decca, in 1946. Note that the record containing sides three and four (‘Do I Worry?’ and ‘Java Jive’) is missing but is replaced by a two-sided record featuring the Ink Spots with Ella Fitzgerald. Included are:
72371 I’m Making Believe – Ink Spots w/ Ella Fitzgerald – 23356
72370 Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall – Ink Spots w/ Ella Fitzgerald – 23356
64891 If I Didn’t Care – 23632 – Album A-477 (1)
67862 Whispering Grass – 23632 – Album A-477 (2)
67928 We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me) – 23634 – Album A-477 (5)
67863 Maybe – 23634 – Album A-477 (6)
67968 I’ll Never Smile Again – 23635 – Album A-477 (7)
69566 Until the Real Thing Comes Along – 23635 – Album A-477 (8)
Condition is fair. 1) The album contains one replacement record. 2) The album cover has suffered water damage and would need some work to eliminate the smell. 3) The records appear to be in good condition but could use some cleaning.
