Description
For sale; collectors' box set of 'Head On' by the Jesus and Mary Chain. Set comprises the following:
Four 7" singles with different B-sides; 1. In The Black; 2. Terminal Beach; 3. Deviant Slice; 4. I'm Glad I Never.
Lyric sheet.
Metal JAMC lapel badge.
...and a handy cardboard box to keep it all in!
Record 1 is still in its original cellophane, which has shrunk over the years and pulled the sleeve a bit out of shape (photo). It was opened at the top to get the badge out; I wore the badge on my black Levi denim jacket right through university! There are a couple of what look for all the world like staple holes in the corner of the sleeve (photo); odd, since the holes go through the sleeve but not through the cellophane! Record 1 was bought in Loughborough's late lamented Left Legged Pineapple, as the label shows.
The box set with the other singles probably came from one of Nottingham's record shops, since I spent most of my time there when I was allegedly studying Aeronautical Engineering. I remember returning from a trip to London during our first week, clutching the newly-released 'Automatic' LP purchased from Tower Records. We were supposed to be there to rattle tins for Save the Children, if I recall...
By buying this little lot, I did my bit to push 'Head On' to the dizzy heights of No. 56 in the charts! The record codes are (1-4) NEG42E, NEG42XB, NEG42Y and NEG42Z. The sleeve of Record 2 is a bit creased down the middle (photo). The box is in good condition; there is some wrinkling to the pasted-on label, but I think that is how it was applied 26 years ago. All the vinyl is in very good, virtually unmarked condition; indeed, I doubt they were ever played more than a couple of times, in order to record the B-sides onto a C90. Seems odd that this most moody of bands are now back playing 30th anniversary shows of their first LP... ah, where did the last quarter of a century go? Twas a good time to be a card-carrying member of the record buying public... or maybe it was just nice being nineteen. I forget now...
