History/description of the records

These records were an advanced copy given to Bill Bebb; a producer who worked for the BBC. They are the very first pressing and were miss pressed so record 1 has side A and B while record 2 has side C and D. The records were supposed to be pressed record 1 side A and D and record 2 side B and C as per usual for this pressing. This allows the records to be placed on an auto changer so record 1 side A drops on first followed by record 2 side B then you flip both records and play sides C and D. Labels have been stuck over the top of the original labels as they were originally labelled assuming the auto changer format. These have started to come away revealing the original labels beneath. Record 2 has still been labelled incorrectly; sides C and D are labelled the wrong way around.

I have seen a few other advertisements on Popsike.com for this rare pressing that explain it better than I can. Go to the website and enter "Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland" and got to the bottom of the first page and click on the listing that says "JIMI HENDRIX Electric Ladyland D/LP 1968 1st! BLUE TEXT!! UNCORRECTED MATRIXES!! The record sold on the 16.12.2013 for £1,016. If you google the whole title the e-bay original advert comes up.

Gatefold sleeve:

The sleeve is a first pressing with blue text and the larger sepia pictures of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. The gatefold sleeve has unwrapped/floating gloss laminate applied. This leaves matt print areas left at the two cut edges where the records are inserted. The gatefold opens to view inner spread (glued to outer cover’s inside tabs as separate element). Gloss laminate exposing matt areas on all four edges. All these elements indicate a first pressing.

The gatefold sleeve has been graded as VG; some minor creasing. The unprotected edges have some minor damage. The laminate has started to fracture down the spine on the outside and inside of the sleeve (see pictures).

Labels:

The labels are clean. Labels on record 1 are coming away from the original labels (see pictures). The catalogue number above the catalogue number is inverted. The title of the album overlaps the centre indent and there is a small gap between the words “Jimi Hendrix” and “A. Schroeder Music”. This again indicates a first pressing.

Vinyl:

The records have been pressed in black vinyl and grade as drifting between VG and Ex. Record 1 track 1 there is a small scratch which causes a soft click. Visually the vinyl looks very clean with the odd mark and surface scratch.

Poly lined sleeves:

The poly lined sleeves that come with this record one is an original and the other looks like a substitute but is from the same era and is from the same manufacturer. They are in poor condition one has the producer’s name that used them on his radio show for the BBC, W.J.BEBB. The records have been put in new poly lined sleeves, the sale will include the original ones photographed.

The record was graded using a Linn Adikt cartridge combined with a Gyger 2 stylus through an audiophile system. For grading definitions see the bottom of this advert.

Guarantee:

Having played the records all the way through I guarantee the person who buys the records will not be disappointed; taking the grading into account. However if the item does not meet with the customers expectation then a full refund will be given if the item is returned in the same condition as it was sent. The refunding of postage and packaging will depend on the nature of the dissatisfaction.

Packaging:

The records will be packaged appropriately to prevent any damage from occurring during transit. Sealed records are not tampered with; if the records are not sealed then the following steps are taken. Records are removed from the outer sleeve to prevent damage occurring to the records or outer sleeve during transit. If records are housed in customised inner sleeves then the records are removed from the customised inner sleeves and placed in white inner sleeves. This prevents damage occurring to the customised inners sleeves such as seam splits and ring ware during transit.

Posting times:

Items will be posted the next working day after payment has been received or cleared.

If more than one item is purchased, where possible, postage and packaging will be combined to give the cheapest and most appropriate postal option.

Definitions for Record Grading:

M = Mint

M sleeve: No wear of any kind to the sleeve.

M record: No wear what so ever to the record. Any mint records in this collection will have been played only a handful of times.

Ex = Excellent

Ex sleeve: Some slight wear to the cover; some impression to the cover; no seam splits.

Ex record: Minimal wear; some scuffs; record plays close to perfect.

VG = Very Good

VG sleeve: Some ageing; minor wear to seams or spine; minor creasing, some impression.

VG record: Some surface scratching; some back ground noise but not obtrusive.

Gd = Good

Gd sleeve: Cover in poor condition; seam splits; tears.

Gd record: Surface scratching; back ground noise is obtrusive.
