Note: I auctioned my personal copy a couple of months back and the record was sent overseas. Somewhere between Rhode Island and Finland, the item was lost. The buyer was refunded, but after a less than helpful postal service, (and useless forms to fill in and file)  it appears the copy may be lost forever. A family member has graciously given up her copy so I could auction it and give others (who had bid on it previously), a chance to own this rare piece of local history. 

Unfortunately, I will only be accepting bids in the US for this auction. This item is too rare (and difficult to find) to chance losing another.

“I DON'T WANNA BE A PREPPY” by The Joe Hebert Band

Up for auction is this 100% original copy of “I Don't Wanna Be a Preppy” by The Joe Hebert Band. I can verify it is an original copy, as I was the one who wrote and recorded it in 1981. This is my personal copy, kept in our safety deposit box for the past 15 years. Fans of nerd rock will appreciate this fuzzed out 2 minute punk tale of young love gone wrong. I was the leather jacketed punk rocker, she was the rich educated preppy girl. Her parents made certain our relationship never blossomed. I don't know what ever happened to her, but where ever she is, she'll be forever infamous on this 45rpm record. Get your alligator sneakers out of the attic and rock out with your um, collar up.

200 copies of this 45 rpm record (with a little hole) were made when in March of 1981, when I was 17 years old. The Joe Hebert Band consisted of myself, (guitar/vocals) and the members of the obscure techno punk band, The Tits. It was recorded inside a freezing cold 4 track studio on Harris Avenue in Providence, RI.

The record didn't become popular until about 2001 when vinyl collectors from the area began scrambling for copies. The song has been a cult favorite not only in the US, but in England, Germany, Japan  and Italy, as well. I know of 3 genuine copies in existence in the USA. The owners (at last check) have no plans to sell.

CONDITION: I'm far from an expert on vinyl records, but this record appears to be in great condition, free from scratches and defects. I can attest that it has never been on a turntable. It's been in our possession since being pressed.
