 The Jonston McPhilbry ?-She's Gone / Woke up at Eight  Fontana  TF 663 UK  1966  Original Unplayed PROMO (sample not for sale stamp on labels) of this ultra rare mod freakbeat gem,sought after by collectors,rarely seen and never as promo or in such pristine condition,archive copy. She's gone is an obscure one-off single by this Torquay based band who gigged in the mid 60s in the Canaries of all places. Good example of jazz styled 'freakbeat' (for want of a better description) in the same vein as The Artwoods. Kind of life affirming, unfortunately only restrospectively, that a band from Torquay once took it upon themselves with executive approval to record a real hip & groovy beat version of a Quincy Jones / King Pleasure bebop number - adding great moments of psychosis. Imaginative and cool to say the least.
