Original 45 on the PYE RECORDS lable cat# 7N.15611 Vintage 1964
Here's a cool Mod Beat single that should have sold better, and of course was to become in high demand only after The KINKS were a household name!
How singles like this survive the decades in such great shape, is a mystery in itself sometimes, but happily this kind of record is now considered 'museum quality' and worth looking after!
It's a truly great 45, punchy and with a brilliant upbeat tempo that moves along all the way through. Harp, guitar, and harmony vocals are excellent and belies the fact that this was a bright-eyed young band of hopefuls enthusiastically delivering, and not realizing that they were soon to be a stanchion of British pop!
Indeed The WHO quickly took up their example - they would have been recording their first Mod single as The High Numbers, at about the same time.... and Pete Townshend wanted the same sound when The Who recorded for Brunswick Records.
Shel Talmy was involved even on this early Mod single, before he had The Who and Creation added to his credits.
Ray Davies showing an early talent for songwriting too, with an excellent first release!
The vinyl is in EX condition, top shine and playing great - loud and clear!
The labels are VG++ from handling/storage, with no writing or stickers
