Description
UK pressing on Pye. The laminated sleeve and record are in excellent+ condition.
On offer here is a very rare LP by The Kinks called 'Arthur' and is an ORIGINAL UK Pressing on the Pye label - and is in absolutely AWESOME condition! HOWEVER THIS PRESSING OF THIS SOUGHT AFTER LP HAS TO BE REGARDED AS THE RAREST POSSIBLE PRESSING AND IS INCREDIBLY RARE. THIS LP SOLD BARELY ANY COPIES ON RELEASE IN 1969 - AND DURING THE EARLY 1970S IT WAS QUICKLY DELETED. HOWEVER FOR A VERY BRIEF PERIOD IN AROUND 1971/72 THERE WAS AN INCREDIBLY RARE PRESSING OF THIS LP MADE - AND IT ONLY LASTED A VERY VERY SHORT TIME INDEED. THIS LP SOLD BARELY ANY COPIES IN 1969 - AND IT WOULD HAVE SOLD MUCH MUCH LESS IN 1971/72 - WHICH MAKES THIS RARE PRESSING VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCATE! THERE IS ALSO A FEW VERY CRUCIAL DIFFERENCES TO THIS RAREST PRESSING - THAT MAKES IT ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL TO ANY KINKS COLLECTION! FIRSTLY THIS RARE PRESSING HAS A 'SINGLE' LAMINATED 'STICKERED' 'GARROD & LOFTHOUSE' SLEEVE. PYE HAD OBVIOUSLY (PROBABLY THROUGH LACK OF SALES) DECIDED TO SAVE MONEY BY CHANGING THE GATEFOLD SLEEVE TO A 'SINGLE' LAMINATED SLEEVE AND DROPPED THE GATEFOLD & INSERT. LIKE THE 1969 1ST PRESSINGS - THIS MEGA RARE 'SINGLE' LAMINATED SLEEVE WAS STILL WAS PRESSED AS A MONO COVER WITH A STEREO 'STICKER' ON THE REVERSE. AND LIKE THE 1ST PRESSINGS THE COVER IS STILL VERY THIN IN STYLE AND IS MADE BY 'GARROD & LOFTHOUSE'. ANOTHER CRUCIAL DIFFERENCE IS THAT ON THIS RARE PRESSING THE FRONT IS STILL LAMINATED (LIKE THE 1ST PRESSINGS) - BUT THE REVERSE IS UNLAMINATED. ANOTHER CRUCIAL DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE LABELS ARE TYPICAL OF 1971/72 PERIOD WITH 'VERTICAL' STYLE LABELS - THOUGH OF COURSE THEY ARE STILL BLUE PYE ORIGINALS. THE MATRIX NUMBERS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE 1969 1ST PRESSINGS WITH A-1 B-1 MATRIX ENDINGS. THIS THIS HAS TO BE REGARDED AS THE RAREST POSSIBLE PRESSING OF THIS LP AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. DONT MISS THIS MEGA RARE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN THIS MASSIVELY RARE PRESSING OF THIS SERIOUSLY RARE LP. This is the original Pye UK Stereo pressing from around 1971/72 and is in AWESOME condition!!!! The record is pressed on quality vinyl. The Cat. No is NSPL 18317 on the Blue Pye label (see picture) and is a UK Stereo pressing. All the tracks are pure quality Kinks at their best. Any fan of The Kinks, or 60s music in general, will want to have this in their collection!
Written as the score for a never-aired BBC television drama, Arthur is the story of late-'60s English working-class exhaustion. Perhaps not the most attention-grabbing subject for a rock album, but in Ray Davies's hands it's rich in texture and stylistic possibility. From the rousing ode to Britain's glorious past ("Victoria") to its less-than-glamorous present (that being the late '60s), Davies portrays a life of cautiously reduced expectations. Arthur once dreamed of owning his own business but has settled for a car and an indoor bathroom ("Shangri-La"). One of his sons spends his time complaining about the system ("Brainwashed"), the other dreams of moving to a new land of opportunity ("Australia"), and when they get together for Sunday dinner there's simply "Nothing to Say." The Kinks at their mighty and surprisingly tender best. --Percy Keegan
