A truly impressive copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 UK original, very first pressing of this rock/pop/beat/psych classic, on the PYE label, MONO NPL 18193

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  NMPL 18193 A - 1 * M with mother stamper "B" at 9 o'clock, and the "KT" tax code at 12 o'clock 

Side 2  NMPL 18193 B - 1 * M with mother stamper "C" at 9 o'clock, and the "KT" tax code at 12 o'clock

The appearance of the flat, thick vinyl is truly excellent (EX). Gleaming vinyl with jet black lacquering and in normal daylight no obviously detectable marks at all. With close scrutiny under an intense light I could identify a few small, faint paper scuffs, the odd wispy hairline and a couple of light, small (less than 1cm and pencil thin) scuffs on each side of the vinyl...each of these is non-feelable, not below the surface and purely superficial. The strong impression is that this record has been underplayed and well looked after - truly excellent condition vinyl and becoming increasingly rare to come across original UK Kinks first pressing vinyl in as good a condition as this.

The labels are excellent (EX). Beautiful, original red textured labels with no unwanted writing or marks, and the iconic PYE logos, on both the side 1 and side 2 labels, perfectly intact, as is all of the black text. If it wasn't for the fact that some very light spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label are just detectable under a bright light, I would grade the labels as "near mint". 

The non-laminated Garrod & Lofthouse silver coloured, flip-back outer sleeve is very good plus (VG+). Such an iconic sleeve, and this one remains highly presentable. Each of the edges are nice and firm with no cardboard creasing at all, but there is some mild (but clearly noticeable), intermittent scuffing on each of the bottom and top edges along with some even milder and occasional scuffing on the spine, where the text does nonetheless remain legible. Each corner is a well defined right angle still with just a little rubbing on each. There is some very mild ring wear on the front side and also some mild age discolouration of the silver background and some very light sticker residue towards the bottom right corner, though the art work and photos remain beautifully intact. The reverse side is excellent with each of the three flip back remaining virtually unmarked and 100% functional. The only blemishes (each very minor) are some very light age discolouration of the silver background and a name R. GAUL" written in very faint biro on the top flip back (this may be removable, with care). The opening sides remain firm with barely any fraying, just the occasional tiny indentation - barely noticeable. Very nice.

Finally, the quality of the audio is truly excellent (EX). No clicks (actually I noticed a single light click mid way through track 1, side 2 but upon playing the same track again the click did not repeat itself - I put this down to a speck of dust in the grooves through decades of storage), no skips, repeats or jumps, and just the hint of a little background crackle at the very beginning and end of each side and during a couple of the quieter moments and interludes...nothing significant here at all; just great mono audio reproduction with brilliant tone and clarity throughout even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. A terrific and highly influential album of the 60's with every track on this remarkable LP still making for a great listen (is "Waterloo Sunset" the greatest song of all time?!). Enjoy!

Comes with original plain white inner sleeve, with some mild creasing, a name written in ink on one side, a little age discolouration, and x2 small 2cm splits : one in the middle of a side edge and the other at the top of the opposing side edge. Still fully functional, however. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a very nice, highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1967 UK original pressing rock/beat classic - a "must" for any serious 1960's vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
