Description
This is a very rare original sealed mint stereo pressing of LP by The Kickstands, Black Boots and Bikes, the one and only LP released in 1964 by Capitol Records. This is known to be a first pressing as there is a cut out hole through the cover at the bottom near the spine signifying it is record company cut out. Also the cover lists on the back side near spine the number of the plant where the cover was manufactured, in this case 6, which is known to be Capitol Record Plant in Los Angeles, and the number only appears on editions pressed basically in the mid 1960's. The LP includes the poster that was issued with LP and which is advertised by sticker on front cover. There is a cut out hole at the bottom of cover near the spine, although when the area by the cut out hole is viewed the hole does not seem to pass through the blue promotional sleeve (which is also characteristic to the period) so the poster may be undamaged. This is very rare album and poster, which have a near mint book value of $150 and $50, respectively
The Kickstands were one of writer and producer Gary Usher's studio amalgams that made use of veteran L.A. session players in the early to mid-'60s to produce album after album of hot rod and surf tunes. With players from the so-called Wrecking Crew, including Jerry Cole, Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, and with Chuck Girard handling most of the vocals, The Kickstands officially released one album, Black Boots & Bikes, on Capitol Records. The album had a somewhat darker hue than most of Usher's sunshine and surf productions, and tracks like "Death Valley Run" and "Slow Ride South" are definitely worth seeking out for fans of Usher and the hot rod/surf genre.
The cover is completely sealed, although there is slight opening in the middle of the mouth of 4-5 inches. The top corner by the mouth and the lower corner by spine are sharp the other two corners have very slight dings or wear. There is also a small section of shrink about the size and shape of a half dollar missing at the top right front corner over the Capitol logo. However there appears to be no damage to the cover in that area. As previously noted there is a cut out hole in the bottom left of the cover near the spine. There is no visible wear along either seam or the spine. The product information on spine is clearly visible. The front and back are in excellent condition with color vivid and no yellowing or wear evident.
The LP is being sold with no reserve and payment is expected within 3 days of close of auction.
Shipment of the LP by media mail costing $4 per album including tracking is only made to paypal confirmed addresses in the United States. If buyer bids upon and wins more than one item the buyer needs to wait for invoice to be issued showing the combined lower shipping cost of all items won.. Return of the LP is only permitted if returned sealed.
