Description

Original series of MFSL releases. Thin, very high quality vinyl pressed in Japan. Not 45 rpm, not a double album, not 150, 180 or 200 gram.  Pre-digital MOFi era.

Not Collector quality but a very good play. See my notes by song. I do not use visual or Goldmine standards as I have been burned too many times. I note what I see and hear so you will have reasonable assurances of what you will hear.

Cover and materials: See photos. Cover has wear, crease/bubble in paper on back, fraying on edges and beginning to split/separate at 3 of four corners. Protective insert shows overall age discoloration and just a little fraying at bottom and album ring wear on front. . Original lyric sheet also pretty nice with a hint of discoloration at edges.  Original sleeve has some wrinkling Replacement inner sleeve very recent. Yellow reply form for defect notifications dog-eared/wrinkled and reply form beginning to discolor..

Label: Intact, no discoloration, no rough edges on spindle holes. LAST label that may or may not be able to be removed.

Vinyl: Overall looks pretty decent with good shine and groove definition.. Some minor surface scratches on side two, with two more visible ones on side 1. None of them have a serious impact on sound. I do not sell vinyl with skips, jumps, extensive groove damage or significant warps.

All vinyl evaluations are subjective- below is how it sounds to me on a dialed in VPI Prime with 3D printed tonearm and Soundsmith Zephyr MK III cartridge (contact line diamond stylus). Sitting position is in equilateral triangle with the speakers. You may hear the album differently than I based on your equipment and ears. I  am attempting to be very clear with the condition of the record as I hear it; please do not nit-pick and say “You missed two clicks” or other issues. If there are serious issues please let me know.

Note: The lyric sheet and some pressings of this album have the songs in a different order. Below is how they occur while playing.

Side 1: Overall pretty good- enjoyable and, to me, not at all distracting.

Misfits: Just a little light groove noise prior to beginning. There is a little more really light noise in a few quiet spaces in the song if you really listen closely. Some noise after song ends.

Hay Fever: Some noise as the song begins until drums kick in. A bit of noise after song.

Black Messiah: Light noise continues in background of vocal introduction then disappears with music. A few light ticks throughout song. One medium pop just before the horn solos. For the most part quiet at end. Just a touch of noise.

Rock and Roll Fantasy: First notes of have some light noise which goes away.

In a Foreign Land: A little ticking as song begins and then in a couple quieter places. Quiet until song fades and then noise in the run-out.

Side 2 A little noisier than side 1 but I would still saypretty good- enjoyable and, to me, not at all distracting with the exception of quiet sections of “Out of the Warderobe”

Permanent Waves: Just a touch of noise as it begins and one or two ticks during song. Subtle background noise between songs.

Live Life: Infrequent lite noise scattered through song. All can be characterized as static or crackle. Not pops, click etc.

Out of the Wardrobe: Some pops and clicks throughout, mainly in the first quarter of the song. A touch of noise as it fades and into headspace

Trust Your Heart: Some light pops and clicks throughout, mainly in the first minute of the song. Quiet at end and into next song.

Get Up: A touch of noise at very beginning and then quiet until the end and into the runout before popping in dead space.

Overall a very nice playing album that I hope will find a new home.

Price is set at the minimum I will accept with no reserve. I think it is very reasonable and takes the condition into account.
