The Kink Kontroversy – Pye NLP 18131
Really solid UK mono 1st pressing of this 1965 classic from The Kinks, issued on Pye with the pink labels.
The front laminated flipback sleeve (Garrod & Lofthouse) has spine and corner wear, some corner and edge creasing, minor grubbiness and staining to the back cover and general wear. However, there are no seam splits, writing, tears or major damage, so I'd grade it Very Good overall.
The heavyweight vinyl retains its gloss and plays through really well with just a little surface noise at times – the music comes over loud and clear at all times. I would grade the audio a solid VG+, possibly a bit better.
Visually there are a few marks and hairlines on Side 1 but nothing of note, so I'd grade Side 1 VG++ visually. Side 2 has some visible hairlines, but these are NOT feelable, and don't impact the audio - I'd grade Side 2 Good+ to VG visually.
The pink Pye labels are largely excellent, though there is a bit of wear to the spindle hole on Side 2.
Original Pye lined inner sleeve is VG - some seam splits have been carefully taped.
Overall a decent UK first pressing that is an enjoyable listen, but with room to upgrade.
