The Living Bible... Sir Laurence Oliver reads from the Old Testament. Presented for His Master’s Voice by Douglas Fairbanks Jr, 1962 12-LP boxed set HMV ALP 1933-44.
This is a good example of the complete set of 12- LPs in The Living Bible series that was released on the HMV label in 1962. Laurence Olivier reads from The Old Testament, with music from the Holy Land. The cover of each of the LPs states that it was Presented for His Master’s Voice by Douglas Fairbanks Jr. The records are numbered ALP 1933-1944 All are in lovely shiny Near Mint condition. All are in lined ‘Emitex’ advertising inner-sleeves.Each of the gatefold covers is a wonderful quality item, laminated on both the front and the back, illustrated in colour – with credits for all musicians and others associated with the production on the inside of the front cover. There are three pages of text (i.e. an integral double-sided page inside the gatefold cover) with passages from the bible that relate to this particular part of the series. All of the covers grade as EX to EX+. The only tiny individual fault to mention is a small graze (and a TINY split – approx. ½”) at the top of the spine on Volume 3.
I am not sure if these LPs were available to buy separately when they were released or only as a set that was sold in a purpose made vinyl box. (i.e. I am not sure if the box was optional should you want to purchase all of the records and put them in it). Either way – to purchase the set either one at a time or as a boxed set must have cost a lot of money at the time as the LPs are such great quality.
As can be seen in my pictures – the LPs are still in their correct original box. Unlike the LPs – and because of how / where it has been stored – the box is a little ‘tired’. It has some discolouration and there is scuffing to the spine. That said – nothing is broken and if you know what you are doing – and what to use – it will probably clean up to look better than it does now. The press-stud that keeps is closed is OK. In all the box grades around VG. Please note that because of its weight (almost 6 KG when packed) I will only post this to a UK address.
