Yes, it's the super-rare debut release from THE MENTALLY ILL. First press with white border on sleeve.
THE MENTALLY ILL were one of the Chicago-area's first and most mysterious punk acts. Formed by 4 teenagers in Chicago's north shore suburbs, the band released a 7" EP called "Gacy's Place" in 1979, named after notorious Chicago-area serial killer John Wayne Gacy. College aspirations seemed to put the band to an early end, and outside of a few house parties, the original group never played live. Over the years, due to its crude sound and outrageous lyrics, "Gacy's Place" developed a cult following, finding such famous fans as Steve Albini and Jello Biafra. [Discogs.com]
Record is a strong VG+, with a couple light scuffs. Plays loud and clear with a hint of surface noise.
Sleeve is suitably punk rock: wrinkled, stained, writing on back, and a friggin' hole torn through the middle. Some call it "patina." [SEE PICS]
BELIEVE IT OR NOT: This copy was obtained directly from member(s) of the band in 1979 when they arrived via sailboat in Port Washington, Wisconsin, having travelled up the Lake Michigan coast from their home port of Deerfield, Illinois. Spotting a couple punk rock girls (a rarity in public in 1979) on the shore, they hailed them over, chatted them up and gifted them a 45. To remember the meeting, the names of two seamen were written on the back "Richard Blatt drummer" a/k/a Special Ed and "Micheal Douglas" (identity unknown). True story!
