Description
The Man Who Sold the World is David Bowie’s third studio album, originally released through Mercury Records in the US in 1970. It features the first appearances of guitarist Mick Ronson and drummer Mick Woodmansey, on a Bowie record. Both would later become members of the Spiders from Mars.
The LP marked a shift toward hard rock, with elements of blues rock. The lyrics are also darker than his previous releases.
The album was released with different cover artwork in the US than the UK. For the US release, the artwork was a cartoon-like drawing of a cowboy in front of an asylum. Drawn by Michael J. Weller, it was based on an image of John Wayne. Bowie was unenthusiastic about the cover, so the LP was released in the UK with a different cover image, that has also been used on reissues since 1990.
Lyrics are on the back cover. Tracks on this LP are
1. All the Madmen
2. She Shook Me Cold
3. Black Country Rock
4. The Supermen
5. The Width of the Circle
6. Running Gun Blues
7. After All
8. The Man Who Sold the World
9. Saviour Machine

LP is very good. While there are some light scuffs and smudges, the record was tested and they do not affect playing it. On side 2, there is a small section on the label that has peeled back. It can be glued or taped down. (See image.) The cover is good. The white parts of the front are darkened from rubbing. The back has some rippling of the paper and separation of paper from the top edge. Both sides of the cover show light wear to the colored sections. The good paper inner sleeve advertises new artists and is beginning to separate along the bottom edge.
