The Miracles / SHOP AROUND / Mega Rare Recalled early version - 55518-A1 (this is not the L1 version) / VG++

Tamla Records 1960 45 by The Miracles. This 45 features an earlier take of "Shop Around" - less energetic, a bit clumsy and Smokey's high notes sound out of range.
Berry Gordy was unhappy with this version, but released some copies (400 were pressed). After noticing that the record wasn't selling, and no DJ airplay, the record was recalled. Gordy felt the song "Shop Around" was still worth the pursuit, but needed a new arrangement. The song was re-recorded with a more spirited tempo, better drums and saxophone sound, and a better vocal range for Smokey, it was numbered L1. "Shop Around" went on to became Motown's first no.1 hit, and one of Rock and Roll's most influential songs.
This one is the rare recalled (clumsy) version with the etched deadwax number 55518-A1! The condition of this 45 is VG++, great sound, lots of gloss, some wear (see photos).
