The Mockingbirds You Stole My Love 1965 UK Immediate IM 015 7" 45rpm Rock, Mod
The Mockingbirds were formed by Graham Gouldman in late 1964, following the breakup of the earlier Whirlwinds. The lineup included two fellow members of that band, bassist Bernard Basso and guitarist Steve Jacobsen, plus drummer Kevin Godley from another recently disbanded Manchester group, the Sabres. The stage was set for perhaps Britain's greatest should have but didn't band of the mid-'60s. This single for Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate label sank without trace and is ultra rare.
The original Immediate company sleeve grades only as G. There is some minor damage to the opening edge with some folds and resultant small tears. It also carries some ball point printed 'YOU STOLE MY LOVE - MOCKINGBIRDS' together with 'Polydor CBS.' There is also some age related and handling deterioration. Please see pictures.
This is not the unofficial later reissue but the genuine original issue as evidenced by the matrix runouts (see below).
The vinyl easily and conservatively grades as VG+. It has been played and the Immediate three prong push out centre does show spindle marks on both sides but this is not spoil the clean and undamaged appearance of the labels. Despite the fact that it has been played there are no obvious deep scratches. There are some light scuffs, a hairline or two and the odd fingermark on both sides but these do not impact on play or sound quality. On play grading there was naturally a little static crackle on the run in and run out on both sides and no really obvious deterioration in the audio - certainly nothing which impacts on the enjoyment of the record. The surface is still clean and retains some shine. Although this is not an archive copy it is suggested that it will be rare in this VG+ condition.
