Description

The Monkees is the self-titled debut album by the American rock group. It was released on the Colgems Records label in October 1966. It was the first of four consecutive US #1 albums for the band. It took the top spot for 13 consecutive weeks till it was displaced by the groups second album More Of The Monkees. It has been certified by the RIAA as 5X Platinum ( 5 million units sold). The song “Last Train To Clarksville” went to #1 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. It was the only hit single from the album. The album features all four members singing though only two Michael Nesmith produced tracks feature a Monkee playing an instrument. Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, Jim Gordon, Hal Blaine and a host of “Wrecking Crew” studio musicians supplied the instrumentation. A great debut nonetheless.
