Description
In the summer of 1968 following their ground breaking album 'Days Of Future Passed', The Moody Blues released their 2nd masterpiece, 'In Search Of The Lost Chord'. Many consider it the ultimate Psychedelic concept album.....highly original songwriting, beautifully recorded and produced, and presented in one of the most mind-blowing gatefold jackets ever. Phil Travers's original cover artwork for the album said it all.
The copy I am offering comes from the collection of a Decca Records executive and is one of the earliest Stereo UK pressings (SML 711) for this album. Pressed on thick and heavy vinyl with deep-grooved labels; boasting a mirror-like shine to both sides, this copy will be hard to beat. The audio is simply sensational.
Gatefold Jacket: Near Mint(minus).....a beautifully preserved example.....lovely thick and glossy lamination...sharp corners, perfect spine, solidly constructed with sturdy boards....near archive condition. Some inoffensive laminate lift along the side of the spine and a very, very small area of laminate and paper loss at the back (top right) corner. Inner gatefold is near perfect albeit with some areas of foxing. The transfer of Phil Travers's incredible cover painting has always looked best on these very 1st UK made jackets.... and this being one of the earliest examples printed, makes it appear even more striking.
Original Inner-Sleeve: Near Mint(minus) ....this poly-lined inner is in exceptional condition.....showing normal yellowing due to its age....some light fraying at the opening, and incredibly, no seam splits. If one looks carefully on the non-printed side, you will notice some faint writing in pencil (most has been erased) indicating among other things, the timing and order of the songs. Proof of sorts, that this was indeed a copy owned by a Decca Records executive.
Record: Near Mint(minus) .....even under bright lights I can barely see any hairlines or marks of any kind to both sides. Both deep-grooved labels are near perfect and only show some faint printing anomalies. The "minus" I've tagged to the Near Mint grade is due to some surface noise that is heard at the very beginning (10 ~ 15 seconds) of both sides. After those few seconds expire, the record plays to perfection....Near Mint verging on Mint! This record was pressed 50 years ago and sounds absolutely incredible. I doubt there is a cleaner early 1st UK pressing of this album out there.
