Description

The Pogues – Poguetry in Motion | Original UK 7" Vinyl EP | Stiff Records BUY 243 | 1986 | Produced by Elvis Costello | Very Good Condition

Original UK 7-inch vinyl EP pressing of Poguetry in Motion by The Pogues on Stiff Records, catalogue BUY 243 / BUY 243-A, Made in England, 33⅓ RPM. Released 24 February 1986 — the Pogues' first UK Top 40 single (peaked #29), and the first Pogues recording to feature both Philip Chevron and Terry Woods. Produced by Elvis Costello.

Why this pressing matters

  • This original 1986 UK pressing contains the "flugelhorn version" of "A Rainy Night in Soho" — a unique arrangement found only on the initial 1986 releases. Later pressings and compilations use a different version. This is the most sought-after version of this recording.

  • All four tracks were recorded in August 1985 in the same sessions that first captured "Fairytale of New York" (with Cait O'Riordan on the female vocal) and a cover of The Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe In Magic".

  • All tracks are non-album cuts — they did not appear on Rum, Sodomy & the Lash and were only widely compiled much later on the 2004 remaster and the 2023 Record Store Day release The Stiff Records B-Sides.
