Artist: The Police Title: Roxanne / Peanuts Label: A&M Records Cat No: AMS 7348 Format: 7" Vinyl Country: UK Matrix: AMS 7348 A1 MN1A1 (Crossed Out) POLICE A1 (Crossed Out) / AMS 7348 B1 MN1B1 (Crossed Out) POLICE B1 (Crossed Out) Released: April 1979 Charted UK#12 Condition: Sleeve EX+ / Vinyl EX+ / Label Mint Comments: This is the second known copy and is rarely seen due to A&M making an error on the label, by printing POLICE instead of THE POLICE, as they were famous by then and only the original Blue Vinyl of Can't Stand was pressed with POLICE....but NOT Roxanne, as both original '78 (Telephone Sleeve) and Re-issue '79 (Group Sleeve) had THE POLICE but a handful on the first pressing of this '79 Re-issue was pressed with POLICE, which was quickly ammended by A&M but some of these copies got out of the pressing plant (according to my friend at A&M who was involved with the original releases, plus he was a Police fan and collector so this is how he knew the background). More interestingly, the matrix of this rejected single, is identical to the limited edition blue vinyl that was also issued from this re-issue single, so this black vinyl came from the same stamper that pressed the blue vinyl, so the stamper produced this re-issue in both black and blue vinyl (see pictures of the matrix I took). This is the rarest UK issue of The Police and the hardest to find (more harder than the Can't Stand UK 7" with different colour labels which I have seen around 10 copies for sale in the past 10 years but this is impossible to find due to the small amount of copies with this label error. The running time of Peanuts on the B Side is also incorrect as it lists the full length version (3:54), when this actually plays the severely edited version (2:52). I will start this auction at £99.99 to give everyone a chance to bid. Due to the rarity I will only send signed for delivery with online tracking. Sad to see this go, so I hope it goes to a serious Police collector or punk collection. Check out my other Police auctions of things left over from selling my collection.
