The Pop Group 'Y' 1979 LP Radar Records Includes Poster
Rare opportunity to acquire such a near pristine Radar Records copy of The Pop Group's fine debut album 'Y'. Purchased new in early 1979 from Liverpool's Probe Records by Julian Cope, the item was immediately kept safe in a thick, clear polythene bag, ensuring that the single cardboard LP cover has remained very fresh and new-looking despite the decades. Inside is the original fabulous high gloss, full-colour poster of unusual dimensions – 22 inches (56cms) by 52 inches (1.33m) – which displays the lyrics and much occult and protest paraphernalia. The poster bear the marks of four drawing pins at each corner, but is in no other way torn or even worn.
Both sides of the disc have just been played through and outwardly sound very good indeed. Here is the itemised report: On Side One, the first three tracks (1. 'Thief of Fire', 2. 'Snow Girl', 3. 'Blood Money') are all clean. Track 4 'Savage Sea' bears one pop midway through, whilst Track 5 'We Are Time' is clean save for some tiny crackles that crop up in the dying moments of the songs. On Side Two, the opening track 'Words Disobey Me' displays some minor static at the song's beginning, plus a pop about one minute into the song. The track also sticks briefly into Track 2 'Don't Call Me Pain'. There are also two random pops later on during this song. Track 3 'The Boys From Brazil' opens with two loud pops, thereafter being clean throughout. However, there is minor crackling at the beginning of the very moody final track 'Don't Sell Your Dreams'. All-in-all, however, this is a lovely item. Many thanks for looking.
