Description
This is the legendary 1966 debut album from The 13th Floor Elevators on International Artists (IA-LP-1), widely considered the first true psychedelic rock record. This is an original mono pressing with the iconic green and red “eye” cover art by John Cleveland, complete with the rare “Guaranteed Factory Fresh” $3.79 price sticker still intact on the shrink wrap.
The sleeve is still in its original shrink wrap, beautifully preserved with deep, vibrant color and crisp edges. There’s only the slightest corner lift visible, and not even the beginning of a seam split (absolutely nothing even close) truly exceptional for a nearly 60-year-old record. The original inner sleeve is included, but the record will ship in a new MoFi anti-static sleeve, stored separately to protect the cover and seams. A new outer plastic sleeve will also be provided.
The record has been professionally cleaned, both with a VPI vacuum cleaner and through ultrasonic treatment. The vinyl retains a gorgeous deep gloss and plays exceptionally well. Side one shows some light paper scuffs; side two has a small smudge and one very minor superficial scratch per side. None of these marks affect playback. The sound quality is phenomenal, powerful, clear, and true to the original mono mix that defined the Austin sound of the 1960s.
This record was play-tested on a Micro Seiki DDX-1000 turntable equipped with a Sorane SA-1.2 tonearm and a Denon DL-103R moving-coil cartridge, an exceptionally revealing and musical setup which produces precision tracking and tonal balance. Playback was nothing short of excellent. There was no distortion, skipping, or intrusive surface noise, only the slightest millisecond of crackle could be heard occasionally between tracks..
I never use small mailers. This LP will be shipped in a 14x14x4 professional record box, floated securely between two thick layers of packing peanuts for total protection.
A top-tier example of an absolutely pivotal album in Texas and American rock history. Rarely found in this condition, clean, original, and still in shrink. A true museum-worthy piece for serious collectors of psych, garage, and Roky Erickson ephemera.
