THE ROLLING STONES  12 X 5   MONO  ORIGINAL 1964 LONDON LL3402 LP FEATURING THE MISTAKEN SPELLING OF THE THE SONG "CONGRADULATIONS".  BOXED LONDON FFRR MAROON LABEL HEAVY VINYL PRESSING THIS ORIGINAL 1964 DECCA PRESSED, HEAVY VINYL ORIGINAL FFRR PRESSING MAY WELL BE THE RAREST ROLLING STONES LP EVER RELEASED. WHAT IS UNQUESTIONABLY TRUE IS THAT;

12 X 5 IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE STONES FINEST LP OF THE BRIAN JONES ERA.

RECORDED AT CHICAGO'S CHESS STUDIO'S ON JUNE 10 & 11, 1964 DURING THE ROLLING STONES FIRST USA TOUR, THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECORD AT THE HOME STUDIO OF THEIR HEROES CHUCK BERRY, MUDDY WATERS, BO DIDDLEY, HOWLIN' WOLF, LITTLE WALTER & SO MANY OTHERS WAS A DREAM COME TRUE FOR THE BAND. AND THEY ABSOLUTELY ROSE TO THE OCCASION, RECORDING A DEFINITIVE CATALOG OF WHAT WOULD BE COME TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED AS SOME OF THE GREATEST PERFORMANCES THE BAND EVER COMMITTED TO VINYL. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING FOR THE DEDICATED ROLLING STONES COLLECTOR.  THE RESULTING LP, CULLED FROM THE BEST OF THE RECORDINGS MADE AT THESE SESSIONS, BECAME THE LEGENDARY 12 X 5.  BUT THIS LP WAS NEVER ISSUED IN THE U.K.!!! RELEASED  IN ONLY A FEW OTHER COUNTRIES, SUCH AS NEW ZEALAND, (WHICH, NOT INSIGNIFICANTLY, UTILIZED A DIFFERENT MASTERING FROM  THE DECCA EXPORT PRESSING ) THE LP RESULTING FROM THESE SESSIONS WAS "ROLLING STONES 2", FEATURED A DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT TRACK LISTING.  IT IS CERTAINLY A FANTASTIC LP, BUT LACKING TRACKS SUCH AS "AROUND & AROUND" , "EMPTY HEART" and "IT'S ALL OVER NOW" IT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT LISTENING EXPERIENCE.  NOT BETTER OR WORSE, JUST DIFFERENT.  IF ONE WANT'S TO HEAR THESE TRACKS, AS WELL AS OTHERS EQUALLY GREAT, ON THE HIGHEST QUALITY  ORIGINAL PRESSING, THIS LP IS THE SOURCE OF PREFERENCE. THIS PARTICULAR DISC IS THE MUCH MORE DESIRABLE MONO VERSION.  THERE IS SIMPLY NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THE FOCUSED, DEEPLY RESONANT AND SOLID TONE THAT THE MONO MIX OFFERS.  EARLY STONES LP'S ( AND ALL  OTHER ARTISTS PRE 1967) SIMPLY MUST BE HEARD IN THE ORIGINAL MONAURAL MIXES.  ANYONE READING THIS FAR IS MOST LIKELY AWARE OF THIS FACT.  THE DISC CUTTING AND MASTERING TECHNIQUES OF THE ERA WERE UNIFORMLY FOCUSED ON MONAURAL.  THE DEEPLY CUT GROOVES LOADED UP THE DISC WITH INFORMATION.  THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRULY CAPTURE THE SOLID LOW END BASS NOTES AND THE AIR (HEADROOM) IN THE HIGHER FREQUENCIES THAT A MONO MASTERING ALLOWED FOR IS UNEQUALED TO THIS DAY; ANY STUDENT OF THE ERA KNOWS THAT KEITH, MICK, RAY, BOB, PETE, BRIAN, PAUL, JOHN et.al. PUT ON THEIR COATS AND SKIPPED OUT OF THE STUDIO ONCE THE MONO MIXES WERE COMPLETE. THIS LP OCCASIONALLY TURNS UP IN STEREO

THE LOUD FULL SOUND OF THIS MONO  LP IS THE VERY IDEAL OF SIXTIES ERA PRODUCTION.  THE FACT THAT THIS RECORD CONTAINS THE SESSIONS RECORDED AT CHESS STUDIOS WITH THE LEGENDARY RON MALO ENGINEERING LENDS AN ADDED DIMENSION TO THE SOUND.  THE ECHO ON THE GUITARS IS TRULY MIND BLOWING, CHARLIES DRUMS ARE ROCK SOLID, AND EVERY GUITAR LICK, HARP BREAK, BASS RUN & VOCAL INFLECTION IS REVEALED TO OPTIMUM STANDARDS.  THIS IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE HARDEST ROCKING RECORDS OF THE ENTIRE BRITISH INVASION, THE STONES FIRST FULLY REALIZED STUDIO SESSION, AND A BENCHMARK FOR ALL THAT WAS TO FOLLOW.

THE VINYL IS IN VG+ CONDITION.  BRIGHT & SHINY, TONS OF GLOSS, REALLY AMAZING CONSIDERING THE AGE, SCARCITY & OBSCURITY OF THIS PRESSING.  THE LP PLAYS EXCELLENTLY, WITH ONLY VERY SLIGHT & MINOR SURFACE NOISE APPARENT.

I PREFER TO BE CONSERVATIVE IN MY GRADING.  99.99% OF COLLECTORS WOULD BE HAPPY WITH THIS DISCS CONDITION.  I GUARANTEE THIS RECORD TO BE EXACTLY AS I HAVE DESCRIBED IT, OR SEND IT BACK FOR A FULL REFUND. THE LABELS ARE CLEAN, THE SPINDLE HOLE REVEALS ONLY THE BAREST MINIMUM OF WEAR. AS REGARDS THE COVER IT IS IN VG CONDITION, CONSERVATIVELY GRADED. THERE IS A BIT OF AGING, OR "FOXING" AS IT IS SOMETIMES DESCRIBED.  THE SLEEVE IS PERIOD LONDON AND EX-.

Grading/Condition Descriptions (unless otherwise noted, grading is by visual inspection):

SS’ = Still Sealed.  Perfect and in sealed, original shrink-wrap/packaging.  I use this grade rarely, if ever. May have cut out.

MNT‘ = Mint.  As close to perfect as you can get, no visible scuffs or scratches.  Played POSSIBLY NEVER OR only once.

EX+’ = Excellent +.  Vinyl may have 1 or 2, if any, minor surface scuffs, but certainly no scratches.  Label has no evidence of wear, no writing and sharp coloring.  Jacket has no seam splits, no creases, clean edges/corners, no ring-wear, no writing.

EX’ = Excellent.  Vinyl has only a couple minor surface scuffs, but certainly no scratches.  Label has very slight evidence of wear, no writing and sharp coloring.  Jacket has no seam splits, no creases, very minor chipping at edges/corners, very minor ring-wear, no writing.

EX-’ = Excellent -.  Vinyl has a few surface scuffs, but certainly no scratches.  Label has slight evidence of wear, no writing and sharp coloring.  Jacket has no seam splits, no creases, very minor chipping at edges or minor bumped corners, minor ring-wear, no writing.

VG+’ = Very Good +.  Vinyl has a few surface scuffs and/or very minor scratches (but no ‘feeler’ scratches).  Label shows some evidence of wear, no writing.  Jacket has no seam splits, but has 1-2 small hairline creases and/or minor chipping at edges or bumped corners, some ring-wear, no writing.

‘VG’ = Very Good.  Vinyl has numerous surface scuffs and/or very minor scratches (but no ‘feeler’ scratches).  Label shows some evidence of wear, no writing.  Jacket has no seam splits, but has a few hairline creases and/or chipping at edges or bumped corners, moderate ring-wear, no writing.

‘VG-’ = Very Good-.  Vinyl has numerous surface scuffs and minor scratches (but no ‘feeler’ scratches).  Label shows evidence of wear and/or has small amount of writing.  Jacket has small seam split (less than 2” long) or has numerous small creases and/or chipping at edges or bumped corners or small amount of writing, moderate ring-wear.

‘G’ = Good.  Vinyl has numerous surface scuffs/scratches and probably a ‘feeler’ scratch (as noted in listing).  Label shows a lot of wear and/or some writing.  Jacket has seam split (less than 6” long) or numerous moderate creases and/or major chipping at edges and corners, water damage/stains, or major writing, or heavy ring-wear.

Shipping and Handling:

All LP’s are securely packaged in a protective shipping mailer/box.  The mailers are made of stiff cardboard and I've found them to be very reliable.  In order to take advantage of the shipping discounts on multiple purchases, please pay for all items in one transaction.  When calculating the shipping, please note a Double LP Set is considered two LP's, Boxed Collections are based on the # of discs in the collection.

Shipping and handling rates (and associated shipping discounts for multiple purchases) are based on destination:

Domestic/USA Customers - The normal/default shipping method is 'Media Mail' via the US Postal Service, since that's the method I've found most people choose.  It is a little slower than Priority Mail, but cheaper and very reliable.  The Post Office says delivery time is 3-9 days, though it's usually to you in less than a week.  However, if you need the item(s) in a hurry, please email me after the purchase and I'll get you a quote based on your zip-code (the average Priority Mail is around $7.50 for 1 LP).

International Buyers – Please Note: * Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. * Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. * These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. * We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior. * Shipping cost based on location. * Sorry we are not currently shipping to Italy.

Please email me with any questions.
