Original 1st US pressing of The Rolling Stones 2nd studio album “12 X 5” released on October 17, 1964. This album is the expanded version of the “Five by Five” EP record including the additional 7 tracks. Perhaps, one of the main merits of this album is the version of the “Time Is On My Side” track which is rarely heard and features the electronic organ intro instead of the guitar one. The currently listed copy is an example of the very rare 1st pressing which is commonly called “export”. The 1st US issues of this album were equipped with the vinyl pressed in England with the “Printed in U.S.A.” covers, which, just like in the case with the currently listed copy, contain the misprint indicating the title of the “Congratulations” track as “Congradulations”. Let’s go back to the vinyl in order to describe this incredibly rare pressing in all the details. The matrix numbers of this copy contain the earliest machine stamped 1st -1A / -1A matrix numbers which come with the “KT” tax code, also machine stamped. This “KT” code was used for the first time in July, 1963, several months before the pressing of this copy. Original “Made in England” 1st print 2.75” deep groove dark red LL.3402 labels with the “London FFRR Ear” boxed logo and “Full Frequency Range Recording” banner, and no album title. It’s very important to note the correct combination of the cover, inner sleeve and the vinyl of this copy. The correct inner sleeve of this issue is the poly-lined kraft brown paper sleeve with the “London FFRR Ear” logo.  The very 1st -1A / -1A matrix numbers of this copy come directly from the master lacquer disc made by DECCA Studios in West Hampstead, London, UK where the “A” at the end of the matrix numbers serves not as the first letter of the alphabet, but the identifier of the mastering engineer Guy Fletcher from DECCA Studios, London which can be found only on the very 1st pressing. This guarantees the best playback sound possible as the pressings made from the copies of the master tapes shipped by DECCA to the US very often have an inferior sound.

The full 1st matrix numbers of this copy are as follows: Side 1 – ARL-6493-1A 1D KT: Side 2 – ARL – 6494-1A 1D KT BR:. The most common combination of matrix numbers for this “export” issue are -2A / -2A and -1A / -2A but finding the very 1st pressing copy with the -1A / -1A matrix numbers is extremely hard.

The cover remaining in the original fully intact factory shrink wrap is in Near Mint condition with the shrink wrap only having some very light age shelf wear. The very rare brown kraft London Records poly-lined inner sleeve is also graded as Near Mint and doesn't have any splits or tears. The vinyl is graded as somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus. It retains its magnificent factory lacquer only having a couple of very light and barely noticeable non-feelable surface hairlines which don't affect the playback in any way. The labels are very clean and are in Excellent condition, scuff- and wear-free, only having some very light spindle marks. The vinyl plays great with some soft and warm Mono sound perhaps only having some very light occasional static which most likely would go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
