Description
For sale by auction only: the Rolling Stones First Press 'un-boxed' stereo DECCA UK 'Beggar's Banquet' LP from 1968 (SKL 4955).
This is a beautiful stereo first press of this classic LP with matrix numbers XZAL- 8476-1K/ XZAL- 8477-2K.
In the run-out wax the numbers/letters at 9 o'clock on side one: are '1' and at 3 o'clock 'BB'. On side 2: '1' at 9 o'clock and 'I' at 3 o'clock.
Using the 'Record Collector' magazine grading system, I would grade the vinyl as a strong VG condition, i.e, "the record has obviously been played many times - but there is very little lessening in sound quality, despite noticeable marks and the occasional light scratch."
There is very little surface noise and the record sounds warmer and more full-bodied than the recent Abkco DSD re-master.
Labels display some spindle wear but are nevertheless clean with no writing or stickers.
The jacket is in VG condition, with no major defects - there is a little ring wear and some small creases. The spine has had some scuffs but is intact and legible. The original Garrod and Lofthouse laminate finish to the cover is in very good condition.
An original Decca stereo inner is also present and in VG+ condition.
