Description

An original 1966 stereo 1st of 'BIG HITS' on the UK Decca label. Matrix 4W/4W. Stampers 1A/1BU - both sides from the 1st mother. Do bear in mind that at 1st pressing, for this title, mono was still very much the predominant format. TRUE 1st pressing must have the Decca deep-groove exhibiting. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Stereo gatefold cover - not a peephole version like the later copies. Also included is the original Decca inner sleeve date coded to '106'. That's code for October 1966 - one month before 1st release in the UK. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete. 
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In great condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side, and a couple of superficial trails - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Do bear in mind that so so many of these greatest hits LPs have been played to death over the years. Finding a little abused copy is not all that easy.... But when you find a sweet copy boy do they sound good. It plays clean even into the perennially played to death 'Satisfaction'. Interference is minimal and infrequent. 'Tears Go By' plays pretty clean - much better than you usually tend to find. The only track where there's a bit of background is in 'Lady Jane'. Noticeable here and there -  but nothing overtly obvious and it doesn't detract from what is still a very enjoyable track. Other than that you won't pick out more than a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side and maybe a couple of isolated ticks. Recommended! 
Cover (Ex-) Has been looked after down the years and is still in very nice order. There's a bit of laminate lift along the spine edge - pretty much obligatory. And a couple of minor creases. The rear is good also with just a couple of scuff marks in the laminate [no big deal]. The interior looks great with light wear in places - but no signs of excessive use or anything overtly nasty looking. There's only minor edge wear in places. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. 
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. No splits.
