Description
An original 1st press of the STONES debut on the UK Decca label. Matrix 1A/3A. Please note this is the earliest copy available, but for the 'Short Tell Me' version - which this copy is NOT. The label has several errors which were altered on all subsequent issues. Firstly, and most notably, is the inclusion on the label of 'MONA' as all the DJ's knew it by that name - only problem is that's not the official track name! Track 3 is incorrectly showing the publishing credit 'Cromwell'. Track 1 is still showing as 'Route 66' - without the additional 'Get Your Kicks' showing only a few months later. On Side two track 4 publishing credit reads 'Bozier' when it should read 'Dozier'. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original MacNeill press flipback 1st issue sleeve. So, the very 1st sleeves are easily identified by two further errors...1) 'Mona' shows as track 4 2) 'You can Make It If You Try' - is missing the 'IF'. Also includes is an original Mono Decca company inner from the mid-60's. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In great shape for a true original 1st press from 1964. It is has seen moderate use, but looks in pretty decent condition with only a few light marks - nothing troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Pretty impressive for a copy of this age and a thoroughly enjoyable rendition as you'd expect from a nice solid early copy. Great mono powering through with only minor and isolated interference. Do expect a few crackles in the odd place and, perhaps, one or two brief clicks. But by and large audio performance is up around the excellent level for the most part. And believe me that's no mean achievement on a true early copy like this.
Cover (Vg+) In way better condition than this very 1st variation is usually found. Lovely clean front without laminate lift and just a bit of creasing at the corners. The rear, often the problem area, is not too bad at all. It seems to have largely avoided the usual ageing that afflicts these covers. There are a couple of marks in the odd place - nothing unsightly though. Edge wear is reasonably light and all the text on the spine is still legible. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity and remains an impressive example of this true 1st issue.
Inner (Ex) Very little ageing and no side splits or markings.
