Description
An original 1969 boxed copy of LIB on the UK Decca label. Matrix 4W/4W. Please note label design is absolutely consistent with the very 1st boxed copies that were introduced in autumn just in time for the release of LIB. Two things are a clear indicator of being from 1969..Firstly - the large text employed on the catalogue numbers..this mirrors the unboxed copies from the sixties. Secondly - the tape numbers above the catalogue number are inverted and this is a throw-back to the sixties, and was discontinued shortly afterwards. The other thing that alludes to this being an early copy is the weight of the vinyl - it's pressed at the same weight you find on the unboxed copies. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed in England with the peephole on the rear which are only found at the turn of the decade as mono was being phased out. We don't have the original LIB bespoke inner sleeve, but we do have the next best thing..An original Blue stereo Decca inner sleeve date coded to autumn 1969. Also included is the original poster too.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Wow, this really is a lovely looking slab of vinyl and has only seen light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks per side - certainly nothing heavy or likely to cause significant issue. Well, if you just want a 60's original copy of LIB which is really going to reveal the true greatness of this album - then look no further! Whether it's Decca's quality control, the heavy pressing, or the fact that it's a near-master copy...all of this contributes to what is a fantastic rendition. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. The only issue is a small mark at the start of 'Midnight Rambler' which causes a pop/skip right at the very start of the song [i.e. in the first three seconds] - this is the best place for it as you can forget about it after the third second and enjoy the rest of the album! Other than that all we could detect was some static in the choir intro to YCAGWYW - as soon as the acoustic guitar comes in it dissipates. By and large a top-level performer from a bonafide 60's copy that will leave you begging for more....
Cover (Ex-) In great shape and has clearly been looked after down the years. A lovely clean and flat front with just a couple of thumbnail creases. The rear has escaped the worst of the ageing process - just a touch at the extremities. Edge wear is very light for this title and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing in one or two spots. No splits.
Poster (Ex+) Faultless - factory fresh.
