Description

An original 1st Press of No.2 on the UK Decca label from 1965. Matrix 2/2. Please note label design is consistent with a 1st press with only 'Made In England' at 12 o'clock. This is also one of the only label variations which mentions 'Andrew Loog Oldham' - as producer. Remember, Oldham was the 'big picture' guy - his musical input is said to have been minimal....So, the producer credit was perhaps seen as a little generous and didn't last long! The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original 1st issue James Upton cover with the offending 'blind man' text on the rear. This was deemed offensive and the company had to move fairly swiftly to paste-over and remove the offending section. Also included is an original mid-sixties Decca company inner sleeve too. So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In fantastic condition and has clearly only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a couple of light marks either side - but nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. These early Decca copies often sound quite impressive, but this one really is so low-mileage and clean that audio quality is absolutely knock-out! Interference is, thankfully, both minimal and infrequent. All we could detect was a touch of light static momentarily in a couple of isolated moments - i.e. very little at all. This is a truly impressive rendition and most definitely a keeper!
Cover (Ex-) Ok, these early Stones covers are just THE most difficult thing to find anything approaching good condition. But this one has survived the years well and looks better than many that surface. Lovely shiny front with only a few light creases. The rear has escaped the worst of the ageing process - but do expect a few flecks of ageing in the odd spot. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains much of the original rigidity and lies flat. A very nice original copy with, now, infamous text on the rear.
Inner (Vg+) A bit of ageing and creased. No side splits.
