Description

Label: RCA Living Stereo
Catalog Number:
LSC 6065
Jacket Condition: VG+/ Very Good+

This auction is for an opened 2-LP 180g 33rpm original boxed set edition of "The Royal Ballet Gala Perfomances" issued in 1995 as part of the Classic Records Decca / RCA reissue Series. This set with Serial # 1-0000, has special significance because it is the set that was used internally to approve the production of this legendary reissue.  Played once and then placed into Classic’s internal archive makes this set a real collectible.

LSC 6065 comes housed in the authentic cloth bound outer box with pull out slip case and authentic 24 page booklet that defined Classic Records as the ultimate RCA Living Stereo reissue company.  Inside are the mint two 180g RTI pressed LPs listened by Michael Hobson to approve this title for release.  Also included is a letter of authenticity signed by Mr. Hobson to insure future value.

In 1995, Classic Records stunned the audiophile collector’s community by obtaining the rights to reissue the most prized and highly sought after RCA Living Stereo titles which had originally been recorded by Decca in London and issued by RCA in the USA to supplement the RCA Living Stereo Classical (LSC) series.  To this day, an original copy of LSC 6065 remains the most highly prized RCA LSC title among collectors. The Royal Ballet Gala is a series of Ballet excerpts from The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Giselle, Swan Lake, Sleeping beauty and others performed by Ernst Ansermet conducting the Royal Opera House Orchestra at Kingsway Hall in London in 1957.  The recording was made by the famed Decca engineer Kenneth Wilkinson using the legendary Decca Tree stereo microphone directly to ¼” 15 ips analog tape.  The original session tapes obtained from Decca were used by Classic Records to master this 2-LP set.  This limited edition set is now a highly sought after collectors item.

A limited number of these deluxe box set editions were produced and once they sold out no more were made. Of further significance is the fact that Hobson was an absolute fanatic and insisted on personally listening to and approving each and every Classic Records title before it was released to the public.  This Classic Records approval copy includes pressings that came from the first stamper which means that this set is of the best that will ever be and as such represents the ultimate in desirability and collectability.

Please note that the outer box has some scuffs on the front image due to having been moved a few times over the past 18 years but the LPs and booklet are in mint condition.

It's a rare find -- good luck!
