Description
This is the first picture disc pressing of seven (7) variations of pressings of this particular recording. This picture disc release from Rhino Records is apparently comprised of the album originally titled, "And Now...The Runaways", recorded in September 1978 in Los Angeles. "Saturday Night Special" was written by former Bowie/John Lennon guitarist collaborator Earl Slick, along with Tonio K.. "Black Leather" may be the best known hit, but all the tracks share the potent energy and spirit of the original band-mates, being Joan Jett on guitar, Cherie Curie, keyboards, Lita Ford, lead guitar, Sandy West, drums, and Jackie Fox, bass. Only four of the band members were together at the time of recording of this album. "Takeover" and "My Buddy and Me" were composed by Joan Jett. Sadly, at the time of release of this album, the group had already disbanded. This was, at that moment, considered the "final recordings" of The Runaways to be released by the band. Many other "best of" compilations of this group have followed over the years, of course.
Joan Jett and the Runaways remain a very interesting and now iconic band of women musicians whose limited releases have recently become more appreciated from a historical perspective and whose releases are thus harder to find.
Rhino Records was started as a record store in California in 1973. Their first recording on vinyl was released in 1975. They have always offered very unique and highly sought after recordings and all their varied album releases over the years are considered eminently collectible.
Please note: The sonic quality of picture discs is not always as good as the recordings on black vinyl. These albums were designed primarily for fans to display on their walls.
