Being offered here is another iconic documentary produced by CHUM radio in Toronto, Canada.  This one is “The Story of The Beatles” from 1970.  After the release of the famous Drake/Chenault “The History of Rock and Roll” and not wanting to be regarded in any way as “second place” during the Golden Era of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the pioneers at CHUM decided to compete with their own Rock Documentaries….and there were a number of great ones produced at that.

Who could forget the Documentary on the “Story of Elvis”?  How about the most famous of them all “The Evolution of Rock” better known by radio insiders as the “EOR”.

But, when and where to start.  After the release of the “History of Rock and Roll” produced at KHJ Radio in Los Angeles, CHUM decided to produce a documentary on the Beatles.  In order not to be left behind, the decision makers at CHUM actually GAVE AWAY “The Story of The Beatles” to radio stations across the USA for only the cost of the reels of recording tape and dubbing. 

According to an insider, who was there at the time, CHUM did this, in part, because Bill Drake sold his “History of Rock and Roll” to CKFH who at the time was in competition with CHUM…this when CHUM thought they had a prior deal for the show based on a “handshake”.

That brings us to our offering here.  Narrated by the great Chuck Riley Hanks, this documentary gives a serious hint as to the eventual CHUM Masterpiece “The Evolution of Rock”.  Many artists from the time period are included in this documentary…a mini EOR featuring the Beatles including a number or rare recordings.

This show runs 12 hours less commercial time and is recorded in mono and will be provided on a 64kbph MP3 CD.  Remember, in 1970, CHUM was an AM radio station and FM had not yet conquered the air waves as it soon would.  So, at that time all AM radio stations operated in mono; hence our documentary here fits
