Description
Rare UK Mod/soul/R&B Classic
This is an original promotion copy of The Senate's 7" Columbia single DB 8110
'I Can't Stop' b/w 'Ain't As Sweet As You'
Released on 13 January 1967 - only one owner!
The Senate were an excellent soul/R&B band from Dundee who had such a great reputation in the mid-late 60s that they often provided backing for US soul and R&B stars visiting the UK. One such was Ben E King who went on to write and produce both sides of this single for the band. They later went on to record a live album with Garnett Mimms.
The A side here is a cracking, muscular R&B dance piece with a vocal in the Zoot Money/Cliff Bennett vein. This is a great example of UK soul/R&B from a band that deserved greater success. Consequently this single is very hard to find - particularly in such good condition.
Here's a YouTube link if you're unfamiliar with the A side:

I've owned this single from new - amazingly - since it was given to me amongst a box of promotion copies of singles in 1967. I was always a bit of a hi-fi nut so I can absolutely vouch for the fact that it's been well looked after and played on reasonable equipment - probably only played half a dozen times. It comes in the original Columbia sleeve.
Not being a dealer I'm not familiar with the conventions for grading the condition. However as you can see from the pictures the sleeve is clean and in good condition with no writing or pen or pencil marks, and no tears or other significant marks.
The record itself has no visible blemishes at all that I can see. The label is clean and virtually unmarked, once again with no writing, pen or pencil marks. The centre is intact and the spindle hole is perfect. The playing surface has no visible scratches and looks as good as new. The reproduction quality is about as good as it got from a 1967 vinyl single pressing - it's never going to be CD quality, but pretty good nevertheless. There's no audible scratches or crackles other than the usual surface noise that you'd get with any new vinyl record. The lead in and play out grooves are clean and glitch-free.
I believe this is as close as you'll get to a mint condition original copy of this very collectable single.
I'm happy to mail worldwide so if you want a price quote for p & p please contact me. Likewise if anyone has any questions I'm happy to answer.
