Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
3LP Gatefold Vinyl
This is the unnumbered version with the blank white box in the bottom right as shown in the photo.
There is conflicting information on various collectors websites as to whether this is one of the first 5000 pressed unnumbered or whether these were pressed after the numbered versions.
This was posted earlier this year on the discogs.com forum for this album
"nickthelick Jan 09, 2012 The original, first pressing, was of 5000 copies. It was meant to be numbered but the box was left unstamped. About 6 months later, they re-pressed it (I think another 5000?) and these WERE numbered.
But yeah, the un-numbered vinyl is the first and original pressing."
So unless an expert or someone from the record company can tell me I'm not sure if this is the very first and original pressing of 5000.
Either way it is still very rare pressing from 1996.

Comes with 12 page 12" booklet with pictures & lyrics which is in MINT condition
Cover is NM (Near Mint) Very minor wear in the corners, the worst of which is shown in the bottom left of the photo.
Vinyl is NM (Near Mint) The records have never been played but there is some very minor scuffing that must be from manufacturing. This won't affect sound/play
I would like to say the vinyl itself is MINT since I haven't played it, but we'll have to go with Near Mint.

Okay, I have had a request to give as detailed a description as I can on the condition of the vinyl and cover, noting all defects in detail, so here goes...
The Front Cover
At a quick glance looks pristine with no visible defects.
The four corners are sharp and just show only very minor wear.
When looking at under a bright light from different angles there are a couple of very minor creases.
Through the girls dress is a slight indentation, but you really have to get it at the right angle under a bright light to see this.
It follows the angle of the shadowing on her dress so is pretty much invisible to the naked eye under natural light.
Very, very minor ring wear from years of storage.
The Back Cover
One very minor crease in the top left corner. A couple of almost invisible spots below the sun.
Very, very minor ring wear from years of storage.
Inside the Gatefold
A couple of very minor creases. No visible sign of ring wear.
Vinyl # 1 dawn / tea time
Nice thick glossy black vinyl with very very minor light surface marks that are only visible under light at certain angles.
No scratches or anything that will affect play.
Vinyl # 2 dusk / twilight
Nice thick glossy black vinyl with minor surface marks and one visible scuff on the twilight side of about 2.5 inches.
This was on it when i got it brand new and the pressing looks to be through this scuff so it should not affect play.
This must have been a flaw in the vinyl itself during manufacturing.
Vinyl # 3 midnight / starlight
Nice thick glossy black vinyl with almost no sign at all of even light surface marks.
The Booklet
Pristine & Mint. Can't find a flaw anywhere.
So, in summary, and back to a general grading.
I have worked in and owned record shops for nearly 20 years.
I have bought and sold thousands of records internationally for years.
I have found there to be huge variances in how records are graded by different people.
After spending a while inspecting every part of this record, I stand by my cover grading of NM (Near Mint)
Two of the records I would still grade as NM
The Dusk / Twilight record I would maybe regrade to EX++ because of the mark.
I have bought Mint and Mint Minus graded records in worse condition than this.
All in all a awesome example of this very rare record.
Based on the above revision and detailed description if anybody wishes to remove a bid that has already been placed, please let me know.
