For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.

The Smiths - 'What Difference Does It Make?' 2 12" Sleeve Variations - 1984

As you will probably be aware, this third single from The Smiths was originally released in a sleeve bearing an image of Terence Stamp from a publicity still for the film "The Collector". As was their practice at the time, the band's name was not printed on the front of the sleeve in the 12" format; creating a striking impression of the artwork image alone. It turned out that Terence Stamp did not approve the use of his image on the band's single, so the sleeve artwork of the next run of pressings was replaced with a humorous "mock" of the original pose performed by Morrissey himself holding a glass of milk instead of the pad carried by Stamp in the original photo. Subsequently, Terence Stamp relented and allowed the use of his image on the sleeve artwork and so all later pressings reverted to the Terence Stamp image but with the band's name placed at the top of the sleeve. Since many more copies were pressed later on as the popularity of The Smiths rocketed, most of the 12"s out there carry the band's name on the front and the photograph of Terence Stamp. This auction provides a rare chance to get hold of copies from the first and second runs of pressings, which respectively have Terence Stamp and Morrissey on the front but no band name in either case. The matrix numbers on the run-out grooves of both records are "RTT 146 A1" and "RTT 146 B1" which indicate that they are from these first runs. What is more, both records and sleeves are in outstanding condition (see below).Both records are in at least strong excellent condition, having seen very little play and being preserved terrifically well. There are very few 'hairline' surface marks seen when the records are held to the light, and no marks on the labels. The plain white original inner sleeves are present and intact, and both all-important outer sleeves are in strong excellent condition. There is no writing and no rips or tears on either sleeve, just some very minor corner wear and a couple of very small and mild creases in just a few places which are wholly unobtrusive. Both sleeves appear very well preserved indeed. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the items themselves.
