Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Ask' Australian 12" - 1986

Catalogue no. RTANZ 12019 - CBS

This is a very collectable Australian release of the 'Ask' single on 12" vinyl which has the distinction of a unique picture sleeve. This sleeve was one of the few issued during the time that The Smiths were together which actually featured Morrissey (or any of the band members) on the artwork. The tracklisting also differs from its release everywhere else in the world, having 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' instead of 'Golden Lights' on the reverse. It was listed as high as Number 29 in the 2005 Record Collector 'Smiths Top 100' article, amongst many test presses and extremely rare items; which is a testament to its desirability amongst collectors. Owing to its unusual artwork this record is truly a pleasure to own, and it would be difficult to find one which has been preserved in a significantly better condition than the copy which is offered here (see below); a genuinely rare opportunity to find one in such collectable condition.

The record appears unplayed: the vinyl and labels are in near mint condition and there are only the finest of 'hairline' superficial surface marks in a couple of places which can only be seen if held to strong light. The striking sleeve is somewhere between strong excellent and near mint condition with sharp edges and practically no corner wear. There are no hints of seam splits as the vinyl has been stored outside of the sleeve for quite a while. Copies of this release seem particularly susceptible to heavy 'ringwear', but this one has only the faint beginnings of such an impression on the reverse. The only imperfection is the mildest of creases towards the lower right corner when viewed from the front, and a very faint darker region on the reverse where a sticker has been removed without breaking the surface or damaging the sleeve in any way. A very impressive copy of this extremely rare record. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail showing the actual record and sleeve for sale; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is free in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, but please consider paying the 1.00 surcharge for tracked postage since there is, of course, nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. I always take great care to package items well.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live.
