Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Meat Is Murder' Japanese First Press Vinyl LP - 1985

Catalogue No. 25RTL-3001 - Tokuma Japan

Japanese LPs are well known for their exquisite packaging and the attention to detail which goes into their production, not to mention the quality of the vinyl itself. Such items occupy a special place amongst collectors, and examples in fine condition are highly sought after. This auction is for an example of a first-press of The Smiths' third album, 'Meat Is Murder', which is on the original Tokuma label rather than the later 'Victor' re-issue. Not only is this item complete, with the (often missing) OBI strip and fold-out Japanese/English lyric booklet, but it is in remarkable condition and has been carefully looked-after from new (see below). A genuinely rare find in such condition, this is an LP which would grace any Smiths collection; its desirability was recognised by Record Collector in its well-known 'Top 100' Smiths collectables article, in which this Japanese LP was ranked a respectable Number 47.

The vinyl and labels are in near mint condition, having been played very few times and looked after extremely well. The vinyl retains its original glossy 'sheen' and there are no detectable surface marks even when held to the light! The impressive outer sleeve is also in near mint condition, with only one minor corner 'bump' in the top left corner preventing it being fully new in appearance. There are no seam splits or 'ringwear', with the record having been stored outside of the sleeve, and there is neither any wear to the edges or corners other than the aforementioned 'bump'. The OBI strip has no damage or wear, but just some light 'ripples' on the reverse which are too mild to be considered true creases. The terrific inner sleeve is also near mint with no wear or damage anywhere. It would be difficult to track down a copy which has been better preserved today. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will, of course, be greater. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live.
