The Smiths – “The Queen Is Dead" (1986) original Canadian First Pressing (free shipping / no tariffs)

Widely regarded as The Smiths definitive masterpiece, "The Queen Is Dead", was recorded in England between July and December 1985. Early sessions took place at Drone Studios in Manchester, while the majority of the recording ensued at Jacobs Studios in Farnham, Surrey, and RAK Studios in London. Engineered by Stephen Street, the album was produced by Morrissey and Johnny Marr. 

During this time, the band had become involved in legal disputes with their label 'Rough Trade' due to a perceived lack of promotion in-keeping with their status, and they intended to leave the indie label for the major label EMI. After a lengthy injunction by Rough Trade to block the record until contractual obligations could be resolved, the album was finally released on June 16th,1986 to near-universal critical acclaim.

The front cover features a still image of actor Alain Delon, taken from the 1964 French film noir "L'Insoumis" (The Unvanquished), while the gatefold sleeve features the iconic photo of The Smiths outside Salford Lad's Club, Manchester at the corner of St. Ignatius Walk and Coronation Street photographed by Steven Wright.

Interesting fact:

A dropout on the master reel-to-reel tape resulted in "Frankly, Mr. Shankly" being re-recorded at Wessex Studios in London with John porter assigned as engineer to save the day.
