Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'The Queen Is Dead' Japanese First Press Vinyl LP - 1986

Catalogue No. 25RTL-3015 - Tokuma Japan

Collectors will be aware of the special place which Japanese LPs occupy in the world of vinyl. The lavish packaging and attention to detail, not to mention the quality of the vinyl itself, make for a very compelling combination. This auction is for one of the most sought-after of all the original Smiths Japanese vinyl releases; 'The Queen Is Dead' being, for many, the quintessential Smiths album. This is the first pressing on Tokuma Japan records rather than the later re-issue on the Victor label. The tracks are pressed on luxurious high quality vinyl, and even the labels have been aligned properly; such that when it is flipped vertically they are oriented correctly! The rare (often missing) OBI strip is present and fully intact, and possibly the best thing of all is the fold-out Japanese/English lyric booklet which has not only the artwork of the inner sleeve and gatefold spread from the release in the rest of the world but also two additional images which I have tried to show in the photos attached. Remarkably, this LP and all contents are complete and have been preserved in truly outstanding condition (see below) making this a rare find and a genuinely special item.

The vinyl and labels are in near mint condition, having seen very little play and being extremely well looked after with very little in the way of superficial surface marks which are seen if the record is held to the light. The impressive outer sleeve is also in near mint condition and is simply stunning: all edges are sharp and unworn, the spine is sharp and there is not even any discernable corner wear! There are no marks, tears or visible creases and the record has been stored outside of the sleeve so that there are no signs of seam splitting or 'ringwear'. In fact, this appears better than 99% of record sleeves, as bought new from a store; it really is a revelation. The OBI strip has no damage or wear, but just some light 'rippling' on the reverse which are too mild to be considered true creases. The terrific inner sleeve is also near mint with no wear or damage anywhere. I can safely say that it would be difficult to find a copy on the market which has been much better preserved today after 24 years! Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will, of course, be greater. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live.
