Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
The Smiths - 'Debut Album' White Label LP With Press Sheet - 1984
Catalogue no. ROUGH 61 - Rough Trade
It is well documented that The Smiths' debut LP was promoted in the UK at the time of its release by white label copies of the record which were sent out to radio stations. Many of these were sent out with two-sided press releases inside which feature a black and white reproduction of the sleeve artwork on one side, and band information with tour dates on the other. What does not seem to be widely known, however, is that there was a different version of this press release which was sent out with slightly later white label copies of the LP; this being the version which is offered in this auction. This different version of the press release indicates that over 60,000 copes of the album had been 'shipped' so far and that the 'expected chart position' of the album was 'top ten or higher' the following week. This later version press release seems to be incredibly rare as I have never seen another copy here on ebay and cannot find it documented anywhere. On the reverse of the 2-sided press release is a reproduction of a press article by Allan Jones, with a photo of Morrissey, and is titled 'The Healing Festival'. This press sheet is not a photocopy, but the original release and has been preserved in terrific condition (see below). Also present, along with the rare white label LP, is an 'Appearing' Scott Piering promotional sticker in the top left hand corner of the front of the sleeve with contact details. This promotional LP is a piece of early Smiths history and is particularly rare with the alternate press sheet seen here; it may be some time before another, if at all, appears on the market. The vinyl and labels are somewhere between strong excellent and near mint condition, being potentially unplayed and having just the lightest of superficial surface scuffs which can only be seen when held to the light. The delicate press release on thin paper is in strong excellent condition, with just one faint fold towards the upper half of the sheet and a faint crease in the lower half. There are no marks and there is no writing or damage to this sheet, which has survived extrenely well; though it is clearly almost 30 years old and its appearance indicates that it is not a newer reprint or photocopy. The outer sleeve is also in strong excellent condition with no seam-splitting, creases or significant signs of wear. There is just some very mild corner and edge rubbing in a few places which is very minor and does not spoil the appearance of the sleeve with its all-important promotional sticker intact and unmarked. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.20 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
