The Smiths - 'William It Was Really Nothing' Rare Sleeve 12" - 1987 Issue

This is the 1987 issue of The Smiths' single 'William It Was Really Nothing' in the 12" format. Notably, it has a different design to the original green 'Man on Bed' sleeve, which was apparently changed for legal reasons to this still of Billie Whitelaw from the film "Charlie Bubbles", and is much rarer than the original. This was listed in the Record Collector Smiths Top 100 rarities list in 2005 at number 74. It is noted that the etching on the run-out groove of the B-side also differs from the original release, and is one way to tell that the correct vinyl is paired with this rarer sleeve; the etching has a 'square symbol' scratched in place of the word 'square' on the original (as part of the phrase "romantic and square is hip and aware" which Johnny Marr apparently wrote). This is a great item to own and it is in highly collectable condition (see below).The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with only superficial 'hairline' surface marks visible in a few places if the bright and glossy vinyl is held to the light; the record appears, in fact, unplayed. The outer sleeve is in excellent condition, with no significant creases and all edges are sharp with no signs of seam-splitting. There are just some very mild signs of wear to the corners, and one light crease towards the top left corner when viewed from the front. There is no writing or damage and no rips or tears. The plain white die-cut inner sleeve is unmarked. Please see the accompanying photos; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
