Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home. Note that my postage offer still stands. If you win more than one auction within a week, you pay only the postage on one of the items (see below). This can make a particularly big difference if you are an overseas bidder.
The Smiths - 'William It Was Really Nothing' Rare Sleeve 12" - 1987 (Re-Issue)
Catalogue no. RTT 166 - Rough Trade
This is the much rarer (than the original) re-issue version of 'William It Was Really Nothing' which Rough Trade put out in 1987. Apparently due to legal reasons, Morrissey wittily chose to use a still of Billie Whitelaw from the film "Charlie Bubbles" in place of the green 'Man on Bed' sleeve of the original release. Presumably far fewer numbers of the re-issue pressing were released compared to the original, judging by the infrequency with which it appears for sale. This record was listed in the Record Collector Smiths Top 100 rarities list at number 74, where it was deemed to have a value of 40.00. Note that the etching on the run-out groove of the B-side differs from the original release and has a 'square symbol' scratched in place of the word 'square' on the original (as part of the phrase "romantic and square is hip and aware" which Johnny Marr apparently wrote). This is how to tell that the record has not been switched for the more common pressing inside the sleeve to replace worn-out or damaged vinyl (as I have found from experience). The vinyl and labels are in near mint condition, being glossy and new in appearance - with only the occasional fine 'hairline' superficial surface mark which can be seen if the record is held up to strong light. To my knowledge the record is unplayed, and its appearance is consistent with this. The outer sleeve is in excellent condition, with the edges being sharp and generally unworn. There are just mild signs of wear to the corners, and some moderate creasing towards one of the corners which has suffered a bump. In the centre of the top edge there is the beginning of a relatively unobtrusive one inch seam split. The plain white die-cut inner sleeve is unmarked. Please see the accompanying photos; note that the ID lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.60 in the UK for securely-packaged delivery. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still good value; please check prices by using the drop-down box below or feel free to ask. I always take great care to package items well.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time, I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live.
