Description

Vinyl lp 12" SPLEEN by The Sound Of Feeling, released 1968  on Limelight (LS 86063), stereo. Contained in original shrink wrap, opened.
Everyone calls this album 'psychedelic'. I'm tired of labelling everything '66-'69 'psychedelic'. It's only psych in spirit. Period psych, not 'fuzz and flowers' psych. One may just as easily describe this as 'crackpot out-jazz' or 'electronic'. Is it weird? YES IT IS. As much a product of Oliver Nelson and Bela Bartok as it is an SDS freak gathering. The opposite of The Free Design, as far as college long-hairs making pop music goes. 'Contemporary' vs 'Avant'. John vs Yoko. This album features heavyweight contributions from Fred Katz, Emil Richards and Paul Beaver among others wrangled together by impresario Leonard Feather. Though Nelson is not credited on this album, his experimental sensibilities were apparently simpatico with TSOF, who also participated on the 1967 Verve lp LEONARD FEATHER PRESENTS THE SOUND OF FEELING AND THE SOUND OF OLIVER NELSON.
