Description
The material on these four albums were recorded in the early 1960s by Ray Davis in a second-story, ten-by-twelve studio at "Johnny's Used Cars" in Baltimore, MD. Ray was a long time radio announcer and Johnny Wilbanks, the car lot owner who sponsored bands for weeks at a time in the 1950s and early 1960s. Ray Davis was a big bluegrass fan and recorded these albums for release on his Wango label without jackets strictly for a special radio offer. County bought the right to these albums in 1972 and reissued them. Three of the four albums are gospel material which Davis was particularly fond of. Volume 2 (Long Journey Home) is the only secular album. As stated on two of these albums: "Mr. Davis went out of his way to ensure quality of performance and recording, as well as helping to select material that the Stanleys would be at home with. The results were, in our opinion, some of the Stanley Brothers' finest and most distinctive recordings." All of these 4 albums are in near mint condition.
