This is the 1972 original US 1st pressing of “The Stylistics” by The Stylistics released on AVCO AV 33023.  This is the original 1972 AVCO US debut 1st pressing which makes it the earliest pressing of this record. Matrix is A1/B1, the very first US press. The cover is in near mint condition in the original shrink. Includes such gems as “Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)”, “Betcha By Golly Wow”, “People Make The World Go Round”, and “You Are Everything” delivered by the incredible falsetto of Russell Tompkins. Very hard to find this record in this condition. They don't make records like this anymore. Please note my 100% feedback and bid with confidence!

The Stylistics is the debut album recorded by American R&B group The Stylistics, released in November 1971 on the Avcorecord label. It was produced by Thom Bell and recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. The album has been called "a sweet soul landmark…"

History

The album reached No.23 on the Billboard 200 and number three on the R&B albums chart. It features the hit singles "Betcha by Golly, Wow", "You Are Everything", "People Make the World Go Round", "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)", and "You're a Big Girl Now". All five singles reached the top-ten on the R&B charts, beginning a stretch of twelve top-ten hits in a row. "Betcha by Golly, Wow" and "You Are Everything" also reached the top-ten on the Billboard Hot 100.

The brilliant album that got everything started. Heads turned, people snapped to attention (women especially), and the "sweet" soul fraternity was turned on its head when this five-member group featuring the sugary, sweeping falsetto of Russell Tompkins, Jr. hit the scene with such singles as "Betcha by Golly Wow," "People Make the World Go Round," and "Stop, Look and Listen to Your Heart." His delivery, shimmering style, and brilliant pacing and control temporarily rendered almost every other "sweet" soul vocalist and group speechless; pretty soon, the Delfonics, Blue Magic,Moments, and others would fight back, but in 1972, everyone was playing catchup to The Stylistics.
