Description
In the early 60's there was a very young garage band from Carroll, Iowa called, The Thunderbolts. They recorded some demo songs at the Sears Recording Studios in Omaha, two of which are "Say That You Love Me", a rocking, down & dirty vocal with heavy guitars & drums...somewhat catchy. The flip side was "The Explorer" an instrumental, again, down & dirty. These demos were recorded on a 45 rpm 7" acetate disc...vinyl or similar over metal. The demo songs were never release commercially, that I know of.
The Thunderbolts changed their name slightly to The Fabulous Thunderbolts and they had one 45 rpm record, "My Girl Sue" released on the Poverty Record Label in 1965. This is a now rarity, also.
This very rare acetate demo I am putting up for auction, preceded the Poverty 45 rpm release, a copy of which just sold recently on ebay for $203.00.
The acetate demo disc is in excellent condition and is enclosed in the original Sears Recording heavy-duty green sleeve. Song information on the Sears Recording Studios label is typewritten (usual for an acetate) with the band's name, song title(s) and the Sears logo on it...then the label was pasted on with glue...pretty bare bones, but that was the way it was done then. There are no markings on the inner disc circle, as there would have been on a typical totally vinyl disc. The sleeve is also in excellent condition, save for a minor crease, bottom left on one side.
The Thunderbolts/Fabulous Thunderbolts were recently inducted in the Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Good luck bidding on this very rare disc.
