It's September 1981. MTV hadn't really started broadcasting and the rock video was still in its infancy ... and then THE TUBES VIDEO was released! The most outragous depiction of rock theatre became available in the UK and I rushed to my local record store and bought the only copy they had on the shelf (at £35 it was way too expensive to keep in stock). Almost as soon as it was released it was banned due to Fee Waybill's full frontal nudity (later covered up in the laserdisk version) and as a result this uncensored example is extremely rare.

The importance of The Tubes Video cannot be overstated. In many ways it was The Tubes who twenty years ago paved the way for the music video - as one critic says 'The Tubes were born to create rock video, but arrived several years too early'. Whilst today the technology and effects look dated, it still manages to impress and entertain - Melody Maker said in August 1981 'What is certain is that it will become a classic videocassette'. Do not expect DVD quality though - whilst this is a very good example and plays well, please remember it is 20 years old! This is an essential addition to anyone collecting early MTV-era videos and for Tubes fans an absolute MUST!

This videocassette contains versions of twelve of the band's hits, mostly from "The Completion Backwards Principle" album but including "Mondo Bondage," "Talk to Ya Later," and "White Punks on Dope," in slickly produced music videos based on the group's stage shows. The full song list includes Think About Me, Matter of Pride, Sports Fans, Amnesia, Mr. Hate, Mondo Bondage, Don't Want To Wait Anymore, Business, Talk To Ya Later, Sushi Girl, Let's Make Some Noise, Weebee Dance, and White Punks on Dope.

Trivia fans may like to know that some of the dance sequences feature the yet to be discovered talent of Cynthia Rhodes (Flashdance/Dirty Dancin') and the video was produced by then little known Russell Mulcahy who later went on to direct videos for Queen, Duran Duran and movies like Highlander and Razorback.

So, here we have an authentic, original and uncensored UK release videocassette of "THE TUBES VIDEO" in its original clamshell box from EMI Music Video as shown here. Both video and case are in very good shape and ready to enjoy!
